TREATMENT OFFERING
Osteopathy recognises the wholeness of the human body, so any problem areas are seen in the context of the whole body frame, and treatment is provided wherever it is needed. It employs a wide range of techniques, including massage, joint stretching, mobilisation and manipulation. Our goal is to provide the maximum therapeutic benefit as gently as we can. Osteopathy is ideal for the treatment of back pain, and muscle and joint problems generally.
What can an Osteopath do?
Although it may sound complicated, Osteopathy is all about treating and preventing health problems through movement. This could be stretching the muscles and joints or receiving a massage to problem areas. An Osteopath in Berkhamsted can treat a wide range of medical issues this way, including:
- Back pain
- Postural issues as a result of things such as work strain, pregnancy, and driving
- Arthritic pain
- Minor sports injuries
The good news about this type of treatment is that almost anyone can benefit, and we treat both young and older individuals through a range of methods, including:
- Physical manipulation
- Stretching
- Massage
- Touch
Our Osteopath in Berkhamsted can also help with recovery, and advise on ways to prevent symptoms from reoccurring. We understand that these types of structural issues can come out of nowhere, which is why we also offer an emergency Osteopathy service for those patients who need it.

OSTEOPATHY FAQs
What’s the difference between osteopaths and physiotherapists?
Both osteopaths and physiotherapists share many of the same aims: to reduce musculoskeletal pain, boost mobility, and improve the quality of patients’ lives.
They also both have extensive training in anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
Because they’re so similar, lots of people tend to get confused between osteopathy and physiotherapy – but some key differences set them apart from one another.
The main difference is that osteopaths treat directly with their hands, rather than with exercises and modalities like physiotherapists do.
Using massage and other manual techniques, osteopaths can diagnose, treat, and prevent various musculoskeletal conditions.
They consider that all parts of the body – bones, muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues – are intrinsically linked, and their treatment techniques will return your body’s bones and tissues to their proper balance.
Is osteopathy available on the NHS?
Osteopathy isn’t generally available on the NHS, and it’s typically something you’ll need to go to a private healthcare provider for.
Cost is a concern for many people when considering any private treatment, but osteopathy is one of the most affordable ways to ease back pain, correct poor posture, and treat arthritic pain and minor sports injuries.
Osteopathy treatment costs do vary across the board, but they typically range from £40-£55 for a 30 to 40-minute session.

How many sessions will I need with an osteopath?
The number of treatments you’ll need depends on a couple of different things, including your diagnosed condition, how long you’ve been experiencing symptoms, your pain levels, and your commitment to prescribed exercises.
For example, if you’ve recently suffered a minor sporting injury, just one to three sessions could do the trick, but for longstanding chronic pain, you may require upwards of six sessions before you start to feel the benefits.
Some patients also schedule regular maintenance sessions to help reduce pain and keep them problem-free. All osteopaths should be able to recommend some strengthening exercises to improve core muscles and further aid your recovery.
